TORRINGTON – With all eight Torrington Youth Series rodeos in the books, the series champions were awarded Wednesday with belt buckles for their summer full of hard work.
To be eligible for series awards, a rodeoer needed to compete in at least six of the eight rodeos throughout the season. Points were awarded to the top participants each week and the total points a youth racked up throughout the summer decided the series champions.
Cheyenne’s Juddy Farella, who finished in the top two in four different events, dominated the 5-7-year-old division. He won barrel racing and goat untying, while sliding into second in dummy roping and pole bending.
Hattie Haeffelin, Torrington, also had a solid summer, picking up a championship in pole bending. She earned reserve champion in goat tail untying and barrel racing. Zane Zurcher, Henry, Neb., was the king of dummy roping, picking up the championship, with Cade Zurcher finishing third.
Teryn Stokes, Torrington, snagged two championships in the 8-10-year-old division, winning in barrel racing and pole bending. Torrington’s Afton McIntosh shined in the girls goat tying, picking up the series win over Wheatland’s Mya Randall, while finishing as the reserve champion in pole bending and barrel racing.
In boys goat tying, Tandon Bentley, Mitchell, Neb., was crowned champion, with Lingle’s Brody Roberts placing second. Roberts found his way to the top of the podium, winning the breakaway roping, edging out Braxton Burford, Mitchell, Neb., for the championship.
In the older division, Rayne Grant, Wheatland, found her way to the awards stand often. She snagged the top spot in 11-14-year-old barrel racing, while finishing as the reserve champion in both girls goat tying and pole bending. Wheatland’s Danielle Brow edged out Grant for the top spot in goat tying, while Torrington’s Klacie Groene grabbed the top spot in pole bending.
Jaxon Farella, Cheyenne, took second in two events; team roping behind Bodie Herring, Veteran, and barrel racing behind Grant. Cory James Bomhoff and Chance Symons finished first and second in breakaway roping, with Seth Glass, Potter, Neb., and Tate Talkington, Scottsbluff, Neb., taking first and second in boys goat tying.
