Two Lancers vying for spot in World’s Largest One Day Rodeo

FORT WORTH, Texas – Dean Gorsuch, Eastern Wyoming College’s welding instructor, and Danny Manning, a Lancer rodeo team member, are competing for a spot in the world’s largest one day rodeo.
Manning and Gorsuch are both set to compete in the steer-wrestling event in Fort Worth, Texas. The two left for Texas on Saturday and the first round of action was Monday. They had two runs Monday and the top 20 in the average out of the whole group advanced to a performance set for later this week.
On Friday, the top-10 from the performance will compete in the short round, with the top-five from the short round qualifying for the finals on Sunday.

“I just have to take it one steer at a time,” Manning said. “It’s great to have this opportunity, but I can’t be thinking about Sunday, I have to think about Monday first.”
Manning estimated there would be 600 competitors during the semi-finals this week across all the events. He said that around 80-100 would be competing in steer wrestling, including some big names from across the county.
“Those guys have been everywhere and won everything, but I have a chance too,” Manning said. “I just got to go in there and take it one steer at a time.”
Manning and Gorsuch both qualified for the semi-finals based of their performance in a rodeo in Rapid City. Gorsuch took first overall and Manning finished second in the first round and fourth in the average.
