SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb. – Torrington Trailblazer tennis players Ethan Creagar and Clay Peterson both placed third in their respective divisions Saturday at the Scottsbluff Invitational.
“Several players had stretches on the courts of more than three and a half hours at a time,” coach Lyle Wiley said. “The guys worked hard even through exhaustion… The guys got a ton of good tennis and they continue to get better.”
Creagar posted a 2-2 record in No. 1 singles action to take the bronze.
“He showed a lot of guts out there and had the opportunity to hit a lot of tennis balls,” Wiley said. “Ethan is among the most crafty and intelligent players I’ve coached, and he is improving with every match.”
Peterson competed in No. 2 singles, recording a 3-3 record, even after forfeiting two matches due to injury.

Kelly Peterson and Brian Fenn competed in No. 1 doubles, recorded a 2-4 record. In No. 2 doubles, Levi Wickham and Mason Weis picked up a win, while dropping five matches. Jaysen Stitt linked up with Benjamin Braddy, who was competing in his first varsity action of the year, in No. 3 doubles. The duo, who never played as a pairing in varsity action before, went 0-6.
“Jaysen did a good job of staying positive and doing his best to help set up Benji for success,” Wiley said. “These two lose all their matches, but improved a great deal and showed a lot of courage out there.”

THS girls vs. Riverton
The Torrington Lady Blazers had a home match against Riverton on Saturday while the boys were competing in Scottsbluff. Torrington was guaranteed the team win after picking up victories via forfeit at No. 1 singles, No. 2 singles and No. 3 doubles, but the Lady Blazers competed the sweep.
Aubree Powell and Sera Glass linked up for No. 2 doubles, besting Jaityn Petit and Summer Bass in two sets, 6-1 and 6-1. In the No. 1 doubles match, Mia Saucedo and Shelby Luttrell won in two sets. They bested Caitlynn Branson and Grace Rohn in the first set, 6-3, before getting into a tie breaker in the second set. The home duo won the tie breaker, 7-3, to win the match.
“Mia and Shelby were down a break in the second set and stayed focused to win that second set in a tie break,” assistant coach Mary Perkins said. “Great win for the ladies.”
Torrington played on the road against Cheyenne Central and Cheyenne East after press time. The boys return to their home court against Alliance, Neb. on Thursday at 4 p.m. Both the boys and girls host Laramie on Friday at 4 p.m. The JV blazers also head to a tournament Saturday in Laramie.
