Twisters split games in tournament

HASTINGS, Neb. – The Torrington Twisters pounded out 15 hits and scored 11 fifth-inning runs en route to a 16-3 victory over Hastings Crush Black 14U Friday in opening action of the Hastings Tournament. 

The Twisters went on to finish 2-2 on the weekend. 

After Torrington’s opening round victory against the Crush Black 14U, the Twisters defeated Nebraska Krush 14U, 8-7, but suffered losses to Nebraska Force 14U, 8-3, and Flash Flash 14U, 7-4. 

Torrington’s Avery West and Brady Laucomer led the offensive onslaught against the Crush Black 14U Friday. Both West and Laucomer finished with three hits and two runs scored in four plate appearances. Laucomer also added a pair of RBI. 

Calysta Trevino added a pair of hits, two RBI and two runs scored, while Emily McGaugh had two hits and three runs scored. Kierra Miller chipped in two hits and two runs scored and Brylee Dean and Marly Laucomer added a hit and two RBI apiece. Avery Fox added a hit and two runs scored for the Twisters offensively. 

Trevino got the start on the mound for Torrington, and went 3.1 innings, allowing two earned runs on five hits with three strikeouts. Fox picked up the win, throwing 1.2 innings, allowing one earned run on two hits. 

In game two Friday, the Twisters scored four runs in the second, two in the third and two in the fourth to hold on for an 8-7 victory over the Nebraska Krush 14U. 

Brady Laucomer again helped lead the charge offensively, going 2-for-3 with two RBI, while Marly Laucomer and Trevino each added a hit and RBI. McGaugh, Fox, Dean and West each added a hit for Torrington. 

Fox again picked up the victory on the mound in relief. She went 4.1 innings, allowing three runs, none earned, on four hits with five strikeouts. Dean got the start and went 0.2 innings, allowing four runs, none earned, on two hits. 

On Saturday, the Twisters pounded out 13 hits but managed just three runs in seven innings en route to the 8-3 loss to the Nebraska Force 14U. 

McGaugh notched three of the 13 hits for Torrington and added two RBI, while Brady Laucomer, Fox and West each added a pair of hits. Dean, Miller, Marly Laucomer and Arianna Camacho each added a hit. 

Fox took the loss on the mound, throwing seven innings and allowing eight earned runs on 15 hits with seven strikeouts. 

In Saturday’s finale, the Twisters could not overcome a 4-run fifth inning by the Flash and fell 7-4. 

Brady Laucomer went 3-for-4 at the plate with an RBI, while McGaugh and Miller each added two hits. Fox, West and Dean each added a hit and RBI and Trevino and Camacho added a single apiece. 

Trevino went 1.1 innings and allowed three earned runs on three hits. Fox went 4.2 innings and allowed three earned runs on six hits with four strikeouts.
