Twelve local athletes in top-10

CHEYENNE – Twelve Goshen County track athletes competed for Cheyenne Central at the Kevin Salverson Invitational in Cheyenne this past weekend with all 12 finishing in the top-10 in their events.
Shot put proved to be a big event for the local athletes, taking on four of the top-10 spots. Torrington’s Logan Harris finished first in the event with a throw of 57-11. Jacob Wambolt (THS) took third in shot put with a 44-7 effort. Blazers Nate Woodruff, with a throw of 42-2.75, and Corbin Harris, with a throw of 34-9.5, took fifth and eighth in shot put.
Torrington’s Tristan DeMott was the other local athlete to finish first, as he took the gold in pole vault, clearing 12-6. Fellow Blazer Jared Spencer finished third in the same event with a 10-6 effort.

In the 800-meter run, Aaron Borger (THS) finished third, clocking a 2:22.72. Lingle-Fort Laramie’s Kelly Peterson finished eighth in the same event, finishing in 2:26.43.
Southeast’s Jacob Cushman was the final local athlete to finish in the top-three, as he took third in the 55-meter dash with a time of 7.06. Porter Ross, another Cyclone, finished sixth in the dash, clocking a 7.21.
Ross also took seventh in the long jump, launching himself 17-7.25. Southeast’s Quinton Steinbock took fifth in the high jump, clearing 5-4.
In the girls’ action, Torrington’s Pamela Pierce took eighth in shot put with a throw of 26-4.5.
The Goshen County athletes will return to action on Friday to compete in the Shine Invitational in Laramie. The action will begin at 10 a.m. at the University of Wyoming field house.
