TORRINGTON – Small Business Saturday is about to get a little bit bigger.
The Town Square, a new partnership between three local business, is opening Friday, Nov. 26. The three businesses are Bear Mountain Beef, Wagner’s Floral and J&B Liquor, all coming together to provide a new and unique shopping experience to Torrington consumers.
“We were just looking for gaps in our community opportunities and ways we could serve our community,” Cheri Steinmetz said. Steinmetz co-owns The Town Square with Celsie Sussex, her daughter. “When COVID hit and we didn’t have beef on the shelves in the grocery store, we just really started looking into the processing industry.”
Now, Sussex and her husband Mac are opening a meat processing plant in Hawk Springs, beginning operations Dec. 2.
“This just sort of fell into place,” Sussex said, referring to the collaboration with other businesses in forming The Town Square. “We just needed a storefront for the beef because we’ve been selling a lot of beef with the pandemic…It was perfect.”
Along with Bear Mountain Beef, J&B Liquor and Wagner’s Floral, The Town Square will have other home goods available for sale all to create a “hometown shopping experience that provides items that our community needs.”
“It’s been a team effort and I think it’s finally coming together,” Steinmetz said.
With the grand opening quickly approaching, Sussex looks forward to seeing all the late nights pay off.
“I’m excited to have the community in here and to see the new stuff that really isn’t available in other places fill the niche that is missing here.”
