Tournament garners $10K for scholarships

TORRINGTON – It was practically a picture-perfect day at Cottonwood at Torrington as 32 teams from around the region took to the links Saturday for the 28th annual Eastern Wyoming College Foundation Golf Tournament.

When the scores were tallied, the tournament raised some $10,000 to support EWC Foundation scholarships in the future. A Friday night Calcutta associated with the tournament brought in another $3,600 for the Foundation, along with more than $1,400 to support the EWC Lancer golf team for travel and gear.

Team prizes were awarded to eight places this year, as well as several individual hole prizes. Winning the hole awards were: Tug Nielsen, most accurate drive on the fourth hole for the men; Lisa Eddington, most accurate drive on the fourth hole for the women; Julie Haught, closest to the pin on the fifth hole for women; Jordan Hanslovan, longest drive on the eighth fairway; Longest team put on the 14th green to the team of Stephen Easton, Colter Reffalt, Josh Knouse and Sam Branham, and; Gerald Wilmoth, closest to the pin on the 17th green for the men.

This year’s winning teams were:

n First Place – Craig Fullmer, Pat Blacker, Mike Fullmer, Ben Jackson;

n Second Place – Ken and Jane Betschart, Scott Anderson, Tom Slusher;

n Third Place – Tom, Kay and Toby Gardner, Jim Miller;

n Fourth Place – Rick Stapleton, Rad Smith, Roger and Mary Feagler;

n Fifth Place – Gary Childs, Don Haught, Robin Haught and Julie Haught;

n Sixth Place – Mark, Tina and Matt Mattis, Rick Mortimore;

n Seventh Place – Jim and Lisa Eddington, Steve and Julie Nighswonger;

n Eighth Place – Gary Pittman, Jr., Brian Childs, David Sheller and Justin Narans.

This year’s tournament fielded the greatest number of players in almost a decade, according to information from College Relations Director Tami Afdahl. EWC Foundation Golf Tournaments have raised more than $175,000 over the years.
