Torrington Youth Series Rodeo gearing up for 2018

TORRINGTON – The ninth annual “Torrington Youth Series” (TYS) rodeos will begin May 9 in Torrington. Produced by Jake and Kerin Clark, the TYS rodeos offer area youth ages 5-14 the opportunity to compete in various rodeo events.

The TYS series will include eight events: May 9; May 23; May 30; June 20; July 11; July 25; Aug. 1; and Aug. 7. The rodeo events will be on Wednesday nights with the exception of the final rodeo on Tuesday Aug. 7. The rodeos all begin at 6 p.m.

Buckles will be awarded to series event champions in each age category. Participants must compete in six of eight rodeos to be eligible for series awards. The age categories (age as of May 9, 2018) and events are: 1) Ages 5-7: dummy roping, pole bending, barrel racing, goat tail untying; 2) Ages 8-10: breakaway roping, pole bending, barrel racing, goat tying; 3) Ages 11-14: breakaway roping, pole bending, barrel racing, goat tying. Team roping will be held for all ages with one partner being under the age of 14 and the other partner 15-years-old or older. Open barrel racing will also be offered. All events will be held at the Goshen County Fairgrounds Pavilion in Torrington.

The TYS rodeos held a practice round Monday at the Goshen County Fairgrounds to allow participants the opportunity to gear up for the season. Here are the results:

10-and-under barrel racing: 1, Kamry Stratton, Torrington, 17.05 seconds; 2, Brilee Burford, Mitchell, Neb., 19.86 seconds; 3, Jewel Randall, Wheatland, 20.15 seconds.

14-and-under barrel racing: 1, Natalee Smalley, Carpenter, 15.94 seconds; 2, Mya Randall, Wheatland, 15.95 seconds; 3, Jasmine Dyer, Crawford, Neb., 16.56 seconds.

Open barrel racing: 1, Karissa Rayhill, Martin, S.D., 15.85 seconds; 2, Amy Jo Farella, Cheyenne, 15.89 seconds; 3, Kadra Clark, Yoder, 15.97 seconds.

14-and-under girls goat tying: 1, Rayne Grant, Wheatland, 7.9 seconds; 2, Baliegh Lane, Torrington, 13.58 seconds; 3, Kaycee Kosmicki, Yoder, 14.65 seconds.

14-and-under boys goat tying: 1, Tate Talkington, Scottsbluff, Neb., 10.9 seconds; 2, Cael Stratton, Torrington, 12.86 seconds; 3, Kyler Clark, Yoder/Jaxon Farella, Cheyenne, 13.0 seconds.
