MITCHELL, Neb. – Senior Scotty Woodruff and freshman Reece Halley tallied the lone wins for the Torrington High School track and field teams picked up two individual wins at Thursday’s Mitchell Invite.

Torrington track and field fifth, ninth at Mitchell Invite

MITCHELL, Neb. – Senior Scotty Woodruff and freshman Reece Halley tallied the lone wins for the Torrington High School track and field teams picked up two individual wins at Thursday’s Mitchell Invite.

Woodruff edged teammate junior Corbin Harris to win the shot put. Woodruff’s throw of 49 feet, 11 inches beat out Harris, who finished second with a toss of 47-6.

As a team, the Blazer boys placed fifth in the team standings with 40 points. Sidney, Neb. won the meet with 106.33 points, while Gering, Neb. was second with 105. Mitchell was third with 84.

On the girls’ side, Halley topped the 110-foot mark to win the discus to lead the Lady Blazers to a nine-place finish with 33 points. Ogallala, Neb. dominated the team title with 103 points, while Pine Bluffs was second with 58. Chadron, Neb., was third with 53.

Halley also finished sixth in the 300-meter hurdles.

In other field events, Harris finished fifth in discus with a toss of 135-9, while Cody Pierce also placed fifth in the pole vault, clearing 11 feet. Pierce also came home fifth in the 300-meter hurdles in 44.62 seconds.

All three of the boys’ relay teams medaled.

The group of seniors – Austin Fox, Jacob Polkowske, Kevin Parish and Pake Haun – finished fifth in 9 minutes, 22.52 seconds in the 4x800, while Haun, Pierce, Parish and sophomore Nick Sherbeyn crossed the finish line fifth in 3:43.35 in the 4x400. Meanwhile, the 4x100-meter relay team of Parish, Pierce, senior Brett Posten and Sherbeyn placed seventh in the 4x100 in 47.10 seconds.

Sherbeyn’s time of 53.74 seconds in the 400-meter dash was good enough for fourth.

In the 110-meter hurdles, senior Bryan Lemmon was second in 15.30 seconds, while Haun was eighth in the 3,200-meter run in 11:29.26.

In addition to Halley’s win, Lady Blazer freshman Allison Brummell finished second in the long jump with a leap of 16-3, while senior Nakalyn Garner cleared a height of 8-6 in pole vault to finish third. Junior Onalse Albaugh placed seventh with a height of eight feet.

Brummell also finished eighth in high jump at 4-10.

In relay action, the 4x800 team of Sera Glass, Mattie Jones, Tyne Stokes and Helena McGaugh placed third in 11:28.43, while the 4x100 and 4x400 teams both placed 10th.

Glass placed fifth 3,200-meter run in 13:23.72, while Stokes placed seventh in the 400-meter dash.

The Blazer teams are back in action Thursday, April 11 at the Okie Blanchard Invited hosted by Cheyenne East High School.
