GERING, Neb. – The Torrington Tigers 15-and-under baseball team posted a 1-2 record at the Gering Tournament over the weekend, falling to Alliance, Neb. and Wheatland, while beating Chadron, Neb.
The Tigers opened up the tournament Friday against Alliance. In four innings, the Tigers were unable to score, falling 10-0. Sam Firminhac had the best game at the plate, recording two of the team’s five hits. Teddy Carr, Nick Sherbeyn and Jackson Jones accounted for the other three hits for the Tigers.
In a high-scoring affair against Chadron, Torrington came out on top. Heading into the fourth inning, Torrington held a 9-8 lead. Chadron plated six runs in the fourth, taking a 14-9 advantage into the fifth.
Torrington scored twice in both the fifth and sixth innings to head into the seventh inning down 14-13. Firminhac, Gabe Mitchell and Tristan Kingsley all came across the score in the top of the seventh to build a 16-14 lead. Chadron was unable to score in the seventh, sealing the win for Torrington.
Firminhac again proved himself at the plate, scoring four runs and adding four hits and two RBIs to his stat line. Gage Correa and Carr also had multiple hits in the win. Eight different Tigers crossed the plate to score at least one run.
