TORRINGTON – The Torrington High School tennis team fell to the Sheridan Broncs in a pair of 5-0 matches.

“We didn’t win a match today but some of the matches were closer than the overall score would appear,” THS coach Alex Schaneman said.

In the boys’ division, Aidyn Saucedo lost 6-1, 6-1, while Gabe Russell lost 6-1, 6-0.

“Aidyn Saucedo lost to a very solid player but nearly every game went to deuce or ad points,” Schaneman said. “He just couldn’t put the shots together when he needed to take more games.”

In doubles action, Ben Firminhac and Adam Bartlett lost 6-3, 7-6 (11-9) in a tiebreaker.

“They showed once again that they can play with anyone in their division and should be fun to watch at state,” Schanamen said.

In the girls’ division, Bethany Wunibald lost 6-3, 6-1, and Jaycee Shields fell 6-1, 6-4. In doubles action Kassidy Hurley and Kayla Watson lost 6-1, 6-3.

“Our girls continue to show improvement and have even found themselves to be competitive with good teams,” Schaneman said. “They will be exciting to watch in the coming seasons.”

The Torrington tennis teams are back in action at home against Laramie at 4 p.m. Friday. It is the final regular season match of the 2021 season before the regional tournament in Cheyenne on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 17-18 at Cheyenne East High School.
