CHEYENNE – The Torrington Lady Blazer tennis team picked up a 4-1 win over the Cheyenne South Lady Bison on Tuesday afternoon.
Torrington swept doubles action with No. 1 doubles team of Tyne Stokes and Jacee Shields defeating Kiah Sparks and Elina Schmiedel, 6-1, 6-0, while the No. 2 doubles team of Elyssa Cummings and Bethany Wunibald knocked off Sarah Willoughby and Selina Hernandez, 6-1, 6-0. In the No. 3 doubles match, Autumn Harris and Theona Haines picked up a 6-2, 6-4 win over Shannon Williams and Patricia Bonney.
In singles action, No. 2 singles player Trisha Cates earned a 6-2, 6-0 win, while the only setback on the day for the Lady Blazers came in the No. 1 singles match as South’s Torisha Brown defeated Torrington’s Sera Glass, 6-3, 7-5.
In the boys’ division, Cheyenne South swept Torrington 5-0.
In No. 1 singles action South’s Brendan Lock defeated Julian Wolf, 6-0 6-0, while Aidyn Saucedo fell 6-2, 6-4 to Fletcher Mothershed in the No. 2 singles slot in the lineup.
In doubles action, Torrington’s top team of Benji Braddy and Isaac Bartlett fell 6-2, 6-0 to Wyatt Ebben and Raymond Dougherty, while Joseph Randolph and Cody Clayton suffered a clean sweep at the hands of Justin Valdez and Josiah Moyte, 6-0, 6-0. In No. 3 doubles action, Colten Tyner and Frank Torres defeated Gabe Russel and Emanuel Bustamante, 6-2, 6-2.
Both tennis teams will return home to face Sheridan at noon on Saturday, Aug. 31.
