HEMINGFORD, Neb. – The Torrington Sharks picked up 14 first-place finishes at their third meet of the season Saturday in Hemingford.
Timothy Randolph paced Torrington in gold medals, with four. He won the 50-yard backstroke, 50-yard freestyle, 100-yard IM and 100-yard freestyle in the boys’ 13-14-year-old division. Fellow Shark Daniel Casper helped Randolph dominate the boys’ 13-14-year-old division, winning the 50-yard fly and coming in second behind Randolph in three different events (50-yard breaststroke, 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard IM).
Abby Dykes had a solid day in the pool in the girls’ 8-and-under division, winning the 25-yard backstroke, 25-yard freestyle and 100-yard IM. She also snagged silver in the 25-yard fly.
Teryn and Tyne Stokes also won multiple events. In the girls’ 9-10-year-old group, Teryn won the 25-yard backstroke and 50-yard freestyle. Tyne, who raced in the girls’ 13-14-year-old division, won both the 50- and 200-yard freestyle.
Avey Jespersen was the final Shark to win first, taking the crown in the girls’ 11-12-year-old 50-yard backstroke.
With 25 swimmers and 10 relays that competed for the Sharks in Hemingford, Torrington racked up 14 top finishes and 19 second and third-place finishes.
The Sharks return to competitive action for their only home meet of the summer Saturday. The first races are slated to get underway at 9 a.m. at the Dale Jones Municipal Pool.
