TORRINGTON – The Torrington Sharks swim team combined to swim 34 miles Tuesday morning during their fifth-annual Swim-A-Thon fundraiser at the Dale Jones Municipal Pool.
Tyne Stokes led the way for the Sharks, swimming three miles. Ruby Ringrose, Caitlyn Flanagan and Tim and Joseph Randolph each added two miles apiece. Each of the swimmers swam at least a half a mile, with many eclipsing the mile mark, which is 36 times down and back in the Dale Jones Municipal Pool in Torrington.
The swimmers went to local businesses and family members to try and get donations for the swim team to cover their expenses throughout the year. After counting up the initial donations, the Sharks raised over $3,000, with donations still rolling in.
The Sharks return to competitive action Saturday for a swim meet in Alliance, Neb.
