SIDNEY, Neb. – Of the 97 total entries by the Torrington Sharks at the medal meet Saturday in Sidney, Torrington snagged 17 first-place finishes and broke 25 meet records.

Tyne Stokes closed out the season with a bang in the girl’s 13-14 year old division, recording three first-place finishes and breaking four meet records. In the longer races, Stokes broke the record and took first in the 100-yard freestyle, posting a time of 1:03.37, and the 200-yard freestyle, clocking a time of 2:34.90. She also finished first in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 28.99 seconds. Although she broke the old meet record for the 50-yard breaststroke, her time of 42.42 seconds put her second.

In the boys 13-14 year old division, Timothy Randolph won three events Saturday and broke a meet record. He took second in the 100-yard freestyle, but his time of 1:09.77 eclipsed the previous meet record. Randolph’s meet record came in a race he finished second, but he did come away with three gold medals. He won the 50-yard breaststroke (37.71 seconds), 50-yard freestyle (30.15 seconds) and 100-yard IM (1:20.86).

Abby Dykes, in the girls 8-and-under, was one of three Sharks to win two races, but she also broke three meet records during the day. She won both the 25-yard backstroke (23.57 seconds) and 25-yard freestyle (19.83 seconds). Her third meet record came in the 100-yard IM, where her second-place time of 1:57.84 was better than the old meet record.

Daniel Casper, also competing in the boys 13-14-year-old class, earned two first-place finishes and set two meet records. He posted times of 39.77 seconds in the 50-yard backstroke and 1:07.75 in the 100-yard freestyle to snag first. Kristina Hall (girls 11-12-year-old) won two events in the girls 11-12 year old competition, taking first in the 50-yard backstroke (43.36 seconds) and 200-yard freestyle (3:04.54). Her time in the 50-yard backstroke was enough for a meet record.

Teryn Stokes (girls 9-10-year-old 50-yard freestyle, 35.14 seconds), Charlie Wilson (boys 8-and-under 25-yard breaststroke, 27.87 seconds) and Griffin Wolfe (boys 9-10-year-old 25-yard freestyle, 18.55 seconds) all recorded first-place finishes Saturday. Teryn Stokes’ winning time broke the meet record. Wilson and Wolfe both broke meet records, but not in the events they won. Wilson broke the record in the 100-yard IM, while Wolfe surpassed the record in the 50-yard freestyle.

Nora Jespersen and Max Wilson both broke two meet records, but failed to take first in the event. Jespersen (girls 8-and-under) broke the meet record in the 25-yard backstroke and 25-yard breaststroke, taking second in both events. Max Wilson (boys 11-12-year-old) snagged second in the 100-yard IM and third in the 50-yard breaststroke, eclipsing the meet record in both events.

Caitlyn Flanagan (girls 13-14-year-old 50-yard backstroke), Avey Jespersen (girls 11-12-year-old 50-yard backstroke) and Bethany Wunibald (girls 13-14-year-old 50-yard breaststroke) all broke the meet record, despite not securing gold.

In the relays, Torrington dominated the two mixed 13-14-year-old events. They took first in the 200-yard medley (2:25.89) and 200-yard freestyle (2:04.66), both of which broke the meet record. The Sharks also fielded teams in the mixed 8-and-under 100-yard medley and 100-yard freestyle that broke the old meet record, despite not finishing first.

The action in Sidney concluded the season for the Sharks.
