NEWCASTLE – The Torrington High School cross country teams began the 2022 season with a pair of wins.
Both the Blazers and Lady Blazers picked up team wins at the Newcastle Invite on Thursday, Aug. 25.
THS senior Aydan Loya paced the boys’ team with an individual win in 17 minutes, 39.77 seconds. Freshman Sully Wilson finished third in 19:04.57, while junior Zeb Munoz was eighth in 20:31.09. Junior Myles Wilson finished ninth in 20:37.02, while freshman Cole Keller was 10th at 20:51.69.
As a team, the Blazer boys finished the day with 25 points. Newcastle was second with 30.
In the girls’ division, Torrington had three of the top four finishes. Sophomore Tiffany Krueger led the way with a second-place finish in 23:29.25, while freshman Kaycee Kasmicki was third in 24:00.19. Senior Amberly Froerer was fourth in 24:00.87. Junior Ada Merrigan was sixth in 24:29.56, while freshman Elli Froerer was 11th in 26:47.08.
As a team, the Lady Blazers finished with 16 points. Glenrock was second with 39.
The Torrington harriers are back in action on Friday, Sept. 2 in Gering, Nebraska at the Five Rocks Amphitheatre.
