CHEYENNE – A Torrington man has thrown his hat in the ring to be the next Wyoming Secretary of State.
Attorney Ed Buchanan has officially applied to the state Republican Party to be considered for the office left vacant by the Feb. 9 resignation of former Secretary of State, Republican Ed Murray, amongst allegations of sexual misconduct.
The other applicants for the position are Pete Illoway from Cheyenne, Darin Smith from Cheyenne, Richard George from Powell, Max Maxfield from Cheyenne, Cynthia Cloud from Cody, Robert Elwell from Cheyenne and Nina Webber from Thermopolis.
Under Wyoming statute, the state’s Republican Central Committee is charged with selecting three people from the list of qualified applicants. Those names will then be forward to Gov. Matt Mead, who will make the final appointment.
The committee will hold a public meeting, beginning at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Little America hotel in Cheyenne to consider the applications. The applicants will have the opportunity to address the group and to answer questions.
