Torrington Lady Blazers swept by Douglas

DOUGLAS – Despite trimming the Douglas Lady Bearcat advantage from set to set, the Torrington Lady Trailblazers still fell in straight sets Tuesday on the road.

After losing the first set 25-11, Torrington rebounded in the next two, trimming their final deficits by six points each time. In the second set, the Lady Blazers fell 25-17. Torrington jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the third set, by Douglas came around them to seal the win, 25-23.

At the service line, Adia Sherbeyn had a solid game, accounting for three of Torrington’s six aces. She also had seven kills and nine digs in the win. Her dig total was a team-high in the loss.

Katelynn Wright, Logan Murphy and Taylor Walsh accounted for the other three aces. Murphy led the way for Torrington in kills, with nine, while rounding out her stat sheet with seven digs. Wright and Walsh also combined to chip in eight assists and six digs.

Brooklyn Tucker topped the stat sheet in assists, racking up eight on the night, along with three digs. Ashley Schlagel, Nakalyn Garner and Paige Miller each had a block on the night, accounting for Torrington’s three blocks. The trio, along with Brielle Bivens, combined for four kills and four digs.

The loss puts the Lady Blazers at 11-10 on the season with a 4-2 record in the quadrant. Torrington’s two losses in the quadrant have come against Douglas, who is 6-0 against quadrant foes.

The Lady Blazers reconvene Saturday for Senior Night, closing out their regular season against Rawlins. The JV game begins at 1 p.m. and varsity game is slated for 2 p.m. While the JV and varsity squads play at home Saturday, the freshman are set to head to Douglas for the freshman conference tournament, starting at 9 a.m.
