Torrington girls fall to Lady Bearcats in Douglas

DOUGLAS – The Torrington Lady Trailblazers gave up only two shots against Douglas, but one of those found the back of the net as Torrington fell on the road, 1-0, on Thursday.

The Lady Blazers and Lady Bearcats played even to start the game, but Douglas converted on a shot halfway through the first half to take the early advantage. Heading into halftime, Douglas maintained its one-goal advantage. The Lady Blazers outshot their opponent in the second half and for the game, but could not get one in the back of the net.

“Honestly, our girls outplayed them the entire game, we just didn’t put one in the net,” coach Travis Rapp said. “We controlled the ball for the majority of the game with them playing mostly a boot and chase approach offensively.”

In the loss, Dani Masterson spent her time between the pipes. She recorded a save on Douglas’ only other shot of the evening. Jordan Hunt had a lot of opportunities on the other end of the field, racking up four shots, but could not convert on any.

“We beat ourselves by not putting enough shots on goal,” Rapp said. “We will continue to focus on putting quality shots on goal and the goals and wins will come.”

The Lady Blazers are still searching for their first win of the season, sitting at 0-5. They played Newcastle at home on Tuesday after press deadline.

“We will continue to improve. Wyoming soccer regular season is often times anticlimactic,” Rapp said. “We could actually still win our quadrant with tie breakers and help on outcomes between other teams.

Torrington heads to Green River this weekend for a tournament. Their first game is on Saturday against Buffalo, ranked fourth in 3A with a 3-3 record.

“We start off with Buffalo, so good competition from the very beginning,” Rapp said.
