Torrington girls fall on Senior Night

TORRINGTON – The Torrington Lady Trailblazers suffered an 8-0 loss on Senior Night against Buffalo on Saturday.
The Lady Bison got the scoring going with a goal at the 15-minute mark. Over the next 20 minutes, Buffalo netted another four goals, taking a 5-0 lead into the intermission. Buffalo scored again five minutes into the second half and added two more goals before the final whistle to capture the 8-0 win.
The loss was the final time the Torrington senior girls will play on their home pitch.
“The seniors have been great for us,” coach Travis Rapp said. “It’s been a rough season win/loss wise, but they have continued to be leaders, echo the coaches and I, as well as continue to look at what they can do more

“It’s hard as a senior when a new coach comes in and changes things for your last year,” he said. “But our group of six seniors have stood strong and helped in all ways possible.”
Rapp said that although the Lady Blazers did not get the result they wanted, they still had bright spots on the field.
“Honestly, I thought we played better as a group on Saturday,” he said. “All our seniors played strong, many of whom are hurt. Lilly (Tavares) and Abbi (Mitchell) are playing through some pretty painful injuries. I thought Jordan (Hunt) and Merissa (Hitt) looked strong up top and had some chances.”
The loss drops the Lady Blazers to 1-12 this season, with an 0-2 record in the conference. They did manage to pick up a point in the conference after losing to Lander in overtime.
Torrington returned to the pitch against Newcastle on the road on Tuesday after the press deadline. On Thursday, the Lady Blazers take on Lander at 1:30 p.m. and they close out the regular season on the road against Rawlins on Saturday at 11 a.m.
“We are preparing for whatever Wyoming soccer throws at us,” Rapp said. “We have Newcastle, Lander and Rawlins left. We see those as three winnable games, and then we will see what we have to do once all the smoke clears. Hopefully we can move into the postseason on a win streak.”
