Torrington Blazer tennis drops two in triangular

TORRINGTON – The Torrington Trailblazer boys tennis team fell to Sheridan and Laramie on Saturday in a home triangular, while the girls lost to Sheridan but beat Laramie.
Boys
To open the day, Torrington squared off against Sheridan, losing the match 4-1. Brian Fenn and Jaysen Stitt were the only Blazers to win, besting Patrick Kuehl and Kellen Mentock in two sets, 6-4 and 7-6, in No. 1 doubles.
Rounding out doubles action, Levi Wickham and Mason Weis paired up for No. 2 doubles, falling in two sets to Logan Jensen and Trenton Lewallen. Mason Brummell and Koby Ringle also lost their No. 3 doubles match to Tristan Choong and Noah DeGrange in two sets.
On the singles court, Ethan Creagar put up a fight in No. 1 singles, but fell to Quinton Suska in two sets, 6-0 and 6-1. Clay Peterson’s fate was similar, losing his No. 2 singles match in two sets to Ethan Kutz (6-1, 6-3).
After Laramie and Sheridan faced off, Torrington took on Laramie on Saturday afternoon. Again, the No. 1 doubles team were the only Blazers to win, but it was a different pairing. Kelly Peterson and Fenn linked up for the three-set win, 7-5, 0-6 and 6-3.
Wickham and Weis stayed at No. 2 doubles, losing in two sets, 6-1 and 6-1. Stitt was moved into No. 3 doubles, where he paired up with Brummell. The Torrington duo let their match slip away in two sets, 6-0 and 6-1.

Creagar put up quite the fight at No. 1 singles against Kyle Moore, losing both sets by a combined four games (6-4, 7-5). Clay Peterson won his first set in No. 2 singles against Eric Van Wig, 6-2, before losing the second 6-2 and retiring.
Girls
The Lady Blazers picked up the win over Laramie, 3-2. They won the No. 1 and No. 2 singles matches by forfeit.  Mia Saucedo and Shelby Luttrell took the court against Laramie in No. 1 doubles, besting Caitlyn Huang and Becky Barbier in two sets, 6-2 and 6-4.
Sera Glass and Aubree Powell suffered a loss at No. 2 doubles, but they kept each set close. They dropped the first 6-4 and the second by a score of 6-3. In No. 3 doubles action, Sarah Hawkins and Jodee Powell fell in two sets, 6-1 and 6-0.
Earlier in the day, the Lady Blazers lost to Sheridan, 4-1. Emi Glass was the only Torrington girl to pick up a win. She won the first set against Ella Laird at No. 1 singles, 6-4, before losing the second 6-2. In the third and final set, Glass won 6-2. Richelle Fitzsimmons (No. 2 singles) also took her match three sets. She lost the first 6-3, but rallied to win the second 7-6. Hannah Jost won the decisive third set, 6-4.
Saucedo and Luttrell again linked up for No. 1 doubles action, losing in two sets, 6-3 and 6-2. Sera Glass and Aubree Powell (6-1, 6-3) and Hawkins and Jodee Powell (6-1, 6-0) all lost their matches against Sheridan.
Thursdays action
The Lady Blazers hosted both Natrona and Kelly Walsh on Thursday. Torrington best Natrona 3-2 but lost to Kelly Walsh 5-0.
Against Natrona, Fitzsimmons (6-3, 7-5), Saucedo and Luttrell (6-4, 6-1) and Aubree Powell and Sera Glass (6-0, 7-6) won their matches in two sets. Emi Glass failed to pick up a win in No. 1 singles, losing 6-3 and 6-2. Jodee Powell and Hawkins fell in their No. 3 doubles match, 6-0 and 6-0.
Saucedo and Luttrell had the closest match against Kelly Walsh, going to a decisive third set. The girls won the first, 7-5, before losing the second and third, 6-2 and 6-3.
Emi Glass (No. 1 singles) and Fitzsimmons (No. 2 singles) couldn’t get things going on the courts. Both dropped matches in two sets, with Glass’ score sitting at 6-0 and 6-1, while Fitzsimmons lost 6-1 and 6-0.
Powell and Glass put up a fight at No. 2 doubles, but lost in two sets (6-2, 7-5). The same result was handed to Powell and Hawkins in No. 3 doubles (6-1, 6-2).
The Blazers return to the courts Saturday. The boys head for an invitational in Scottsbluff, Neb., while the girls host Riverton at 11 a.m.
