Torrington All-Stars sweep day one of District Tournament

GILLETTE – The two Torrington All-Star teams picked up run-ruled victories over the Platte County All-Stars on Monday as the District No. 2 Tournament got underway for Little League.

The 9-10-year-old all-stars began the day with a 19-0 win over Platte County.

Behind the pitching of Caden Ryall, Torrington only allowed one hit on the day.

Ryall pitched 2 2/3 innings, allowing only two base runners for the game, picking up the win.

Offensively, the younger all-star team pounded out 16 hits over three innings. Torrington scored seven runs in the first inning, 11 in the second and one in third.

Patrick Mortimore, Hudson Hoffman, Chase Moeller, Case Gonzalez, Barrett Perales and Ayden Smith all collected two hits each in the win.

Meanwhile, in the afternoon, the 11-12-year-old all-stars picked up a 13-3 win over Platte County.

Torrington jumped Platte County early with four runs in the inning, adding one in the second and eight in the third.

Barrett Bruch, Garrett Hager, Kane Correa, Waylon Merrigan and Asher Mattis tallied two hits each for Torrington. Bruch also drove in a team-high two runs.

Colby Groene picked up the win, pitching two innings and striking out five. In all, the pitching trio of Groene, James Stienmetz and Bryce B combined to strike out 11 Platte County batters.

The District No. 2 Tournament continues through Saturday, July 23.
