NEWCASTLE – The Torrington wrestling team traveled to Newcastle for three duals for a quadrangular on Tuesday evening.

The Blazers came away with wins over Wheatland and Newcastle/Upton but came up short against Douglas.

Against Wheatland, Tyler Nicolay (106 pounds) and Ty Albaugh (113) set the tone in a 47-18 win with back-to-back pins.

Reece Grubbs (126), Colby Sandusky (132), JR Ruiz (152), Matthew Hellus (182) also picked up pins, while Kaden Romig (138) and Brandan Woodard (145) picked up decision victories. Bryce Hager (170) scored a 19-1 technical fall win.

Against Douglas, the Bearcats picked up 18 points over the final three matches to hand Torrington a 39-33 loss.

The Blazers opened the dual with four straight first-period pins. Nicolay, Albaugh, Grubbs and Sandusky gave Torrington a quick 24-0 lead before Douglas picked up its first win at 138 pounds.

Woodard scored a 4-2 win at 145 pounds, but Douglas won the next three matches. Hellus got Torrington’s final win of the dual with a pin in 1 minute, 49 seconds at 182 pounds.

The Blazers also defeated Newcastle/Upton 42-30. No individual results were available at press time.

Torrington is back in action this weekend in Lander on Friday and Saturday, joining more than 30 other teams from around the state of Wyoming.
