RAPID CITY, S.D. – Tommy (Tom) Glenn Lowry passed away at the Hospice House in Rapid City, S.D., on Monday Sept. 11, 2017, at the age of 51.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents Margaret (Sis) Ann Gilmore and Tommy Lee Lowry and his grandparents William and Margaret Elizabeth Gilmore.
Tom is survived by his wife of 28 years, Victoria; his sister Stacy Ann (Brian) Beman of Laramie; his two sons Nicholas Joseph and Jared Anthony Lowry of Rapid City; his two daughters Megan Michelle (Jakeb) Myers of Sidney, Neb., and Amanda Elizabeth (Nico) Steele of Rapid City. Tom also has six beautiful granddaughters – Neveah, Taliya, Emma, Melody, Harper and Avey.
Tom was born in Scottsbluff, Neb. on July 6, 1966, and spent his early years in Torrington. After marrying Victoria, they moved to Rapid City, where he raised his family and worked for the city of Rapid City in the Recreation Department.
Tom enjoyed many hobbies. He was an avid motorcyclist, he loved fishing the lakes and streams of the Black Hills. You would often find him on a golf course or in the kitchen cooking. He loved animals and could train anything. He was a Little League coach for his sons. Over the last couple years, he became a skilled jewelry maker.
Most of all Tom’s heart and soul was his family. He enjoyed spending as much time as he could with family and close friends. He especially loved to be at home with his grandchildren. Even in his last days when Vicki would try to keep “the girls” quiet he would say, “Let them run and have fun. The sound they make is the best sound in the world.”
Tom’s final wish was not to have a funeral but to celebrate his full life. Celebration has already taken place.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Hospice House, 224 Elk St. Rapid City, South Dakota 57701. The family of Tom Lowry wishes to thank the staff of Hospice House and all of the family and friends that made Tom’s last days peaceful and loving.
