TORRINGTON – The Torrington ‘A’ American Legion baseball team picked up four wins over the weekend to move to 8-2 overall.

The Tigers picked up a 15-3 win over the Rawlins Generals in a non-conference battle at Dean Bullock Field on Friday before capturing a rain-shortened 9-1 victory in game two. On Saturday, Torrington outscored Bridgeport, Neb., 31-1 en route to a sweep. The four wins push the Tigers’ win streak to seven. 

The Tigers did most of the damage in the first inning on Friday in game one, scoring nine runs aided by five Rawlins errors.

After a three up, three down top of the first, an error got Torrington lead-off batter Landre Greiman to second base and Ayden Desmond backed it up with a triple to put his team on the scoreboard.

It was only the beginning of a nine-run frame to put the Tigers in charge of the first game of two.

Torrington scored six of those runs before the Generals tallied their first out of the inning.

With the Tigers leading 9-0, Rawlins took advantage of a bases loaded situation in the second inning. A walk and a wild pitch brought in two runs for the Generals.

Torrington got one of those runs back in the home half of the second. Tiger first baseman Jonathan Bloom reached base on an error and eventually came around to score on a passed ball.

Torrington added one more run courtesy of a two-out double, pushing their lead to 11-3.

The Tigers capped off the game with four runs in the fourth. Bloom, Ryan Moorehouse, Grady Shields, Ben Firminhac and Mac Hibben all tallied hits in the inning, pushing the lead to 12.

The Tigers were able to retire Rawlins in order to close out the run-ruled contest.

Firminhac went 4-for-4 at the plate, while Desmond, Shields and Hibben collected three hits apiece.

Shields also picked up the win, pitching three innings, striking out three over three innings.

In game two, Torrington was leading 9-1 when the rains came in the bottom of the second.

Rawlins scored its only run in the first inning, but the Tigers plated two in the bottom half of the inning.

The seven-run second inning was highlighted by an inside-the-park home run by Hibben, driving in three runs.

The game ended with one out in the bottom of the second.

Despite getting only two innings played, the game was considered final.

On Saturday, Torrington pushed two runs across in the first inning before adding six runs in each the second and third innings as Desmond tossed a complete-game shutout, allowing just two hits, in the Tigers’ 15-0 victory. 

Desmond had two hits and four RBI for Torrington, while Firminhac added two doubles and an RBI. Hibben added a triple and two RBI, while Austin Short, Ryder Hackbarth, Nolan Long, Drew Kramer and Moorehouse each added a hit. 

In game two, Torrington scored three in the first, seven in the second, two in the third and four in the fourth to win via run-rule, 16-1. 

Firminhac launched his first homerun of the season in the first inning and added a single later with two RBI, while Short and Shields added a pair of hits and two RBI apiece.

Landre Greiman, Desmond, Hibben, Nolan Long and Kramer each added a hit for the Tigers. 

Hibben picked up the win on the mound, tossing 3 1/3 innings, allowing two hits with six strikeouts. 

The Tigers open the ‘A’ East Conference action on Thursday, June 1 against Gillette. First game of the doubleheader is scheduled for 4 p.m.
