CHEYENNE – It was the tail of two games for the Torrington Tigers at a triangular hosted by the Cheyenne Hawks on Sunday at Pioneer Park.

In game one, the Tigers only mustered two hits in an 8-1 loss to the Cheyenne Hawks.

Both hits came in the top of the fifth inning.

Mac Hibben led off the frame with a triple, and Drew Kramer followed it up with a single, driving in Hibben.

In all, Torrington had only three additional base runners for the remainder of the game. Two were due to errors and the other was a dropped third strike.

Ayden Desmond took the loss in five innings of work. He struck out three and walked none.

In game two, it was a different story for the Tiger offense.

Torrington blasted conference-foe Wheatland 29-8 in five innings.

The Tigers pounded out 18 hits and forced the Lobos to commit 10 errors.

Wheatland got the scoreboard first in the top of the first inning, but it proved to be the only lead of the game for the Lobos.

It took Torrington only four batters to tie the game and five to take the lead.

Landre Greiman led off the first with a walk, and Austin Short singled. Ben Firminhac grounded into a fielder’s choice putting runners at the corners. Desmond singled, driving in Greiman, and a passed ball scored Firminhac to give Torrington a 2-1 lead.

The Tigers plated 16 runs in the second inning and 10 in the third, extending the lead to 28-4 heading into the fourth inning. Wheatland got four runs back in the fourth, and Firminhac capped off Torrington’s scoring with an RBI single to center field.

Hibben picked up the win for the Tigers, pitching three innings, striking out three. Short also worked a pair of innings, striking out four.

Offensively, Torrington was led by Desmond and Grady Shields, who tallied three hits apiece. Greiman, Short, Firminhac, Ryder Hackbarth and Nolan Long collected two hits apiece in the win. Greiman drove in five runs, while Firminhac and Shields had four RBIs each.

The Tigers are back in action on Friday, May 19. They host Chadron, Nebraska at 5 and 7 p.m. at Dean Bullock Field.
