WHEATLAND – The Torrington Tiger C-NE team scored a pair of conference wins over the weekend in Wheatland.

It was wins three and four of the season for the Tigers with 17-9 and 12-5 victories over the Wheatland Lobos.

In game one, Colter McFarlin and Colby Sandusky had three hits apiece to combine for six of the 11 hits in the win. Mateo Correa and Spencer Booth added two apiece, while Harrison Rodriquez had the other.

Torrington jumped on Wheatland early with four runs in the top of the first, but the Lobos battled back with two runs in the bottom of the first and five in the second to take a 7-4 lead into the third.

The Tigers exploded with seven runs in the third and limited Wheatland to only two more runs the remainder of the game. Torrington added three in the fifth and seventh to cap off the 17-run outburst.

Booth was the winning pitcher of record. He threw six innings, striking out four.

In game two, a Wheatland error in the top of the first gave the Tigers a 1-0 lead. It was a lead which Torrington held for the entire game in a 12-5 victory.

Wheatland scored two runs in the bottom of the third, cutting the visitors 4-1 lead to one run, but it proved to be as close as the Lobos came the remainder of the game.

Torrington closed out the game with two runs in the fifth, five in the sixth and one in the seventh.

Rhett Clarke paced the offense with two of the team’s four hits and two RBIs. Sandusky and Hadley Evans had one each. Wheatland issued 11 walks to Tiger batters.

Sandusky and Beaux Shimic combined to strike out 13 Wheatland batters, giving up only four earned runs.

The Tigers (4-9) hosts Caper at 4 p.m. Thursday, June 16 at Jirdon Park.
