GERING, Neb. – Torrington Thunder 12U and 14U teams showed off their Halloween spirit last weekend, Oct. 22-23, 2022, by participating in the Oregon Trail Boo Bash Softball Tournament in Gering.

The tournament was sponsored by the Panhandle Pride Softball Organization of Gering and each team dressed in a team costume, giving the tournament a very fun Halloween vibe.

Team members of Thunder 14U were dressed as classic Gatorade, and Torrington Thunder 12U were dressed as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Both teams went undefeated in pool play on Saturday. Torrington Thunder 14U defeated the Morrill County Rockers 13-3, followed by the Panhandle Pride 14-7, and finally the Casper Rebels 10-6.

Torrington Thunder 12U defeated Casper Rebels 12-5, Panhandle Pride 20-7, and Valley Aces 17-4.

In bracket play on Sunday, the Thunder 14U team defeated the Morrill County Rockers 14-7, advancing them to the championship game, where they went on to defeat Panhandle Pride 13-5.

The Thunder 12U team defeated the Casper Rebels 24-7 in the semifinals and moved past the Valley Aces in the championship game, winning 15-3.

Each team had first-time home runs by Jordynn Speckner for the 14U and Charlee Floyd for the 12U.

“We are very proud of these girls. They had not picked up a softball since July and went out there, had fun, and did all the things they’ve practiced so hard to do,” 14U coach Travis Reinhardt said. “All the coaches have been telling them it would come together and this weekend the girls got to see that happen.”

“When these girls come together, they are unbeatable,” 12U coach Wayne Schamel said. “I am very excited for the future of Torrington Thunder Softball.”

In addition to winning the tournament, Torrington Thunder 14U also won the award for best costume in their division.
