Thunder 14U softball finishes runner-up at state

GILLETTE – The Torrington Thunder 14U softball team wrapped up the weekend’s USA Softball of Wyoming State Tournament with a runner-up finish in Gillette.

During Saturday morning’s portion of the bracket play, the Thunder racked up 29 runs in a 29-16 victory over the Riverton Renegades.

In the afternoon, Torrington continued to advance its way through the bracket with a 9-7 win over the Gillette Wicked 307.

The win moved them into Sunday’s semifinal round where the Thunder picked up a 9-8 win over the Sheridan Mystix to punch their ticket to the championship game.

The Mystic rebounded to win their following game over the Valor Valkyrie to have another shot at the Torrington Thunder in the title game.

Sheridan topped the Thunder 13-7 in the title game.

The game was tied at six in the bottom of the fifth inning when Sheridan pulled away from the Thunder.

Sheridan’s big inning came in the sixth, scoring six runs.

Brooklyn Asmus went 4 1/3 innings in the circle for the Thunder, allowing four hits and eight runs while striking out eight.

Offensively, the Thunder tallied 15 hits. Skyla Wunder, Ella Moore, Defoe, Jordynn Speckner, Kaydyn Tucker and Hope Hager all managed multiple hits for Torrington.  Moore and Wunder all had three hits to lead Thunder.

Thunder 12U go 2-2 at state

The Thunder 12U picked up wins over the Cheyenne Extreme 16-11 and Razor City Renegades 11-10 in the 12U bracket over the weekend.

Both Thunder losses came at the hands of the Laramie All-Stars, 14-13 and 13-5.

Thunder 10U winless

at state

The Torrington Thunder also had its 10U squad in Gillette over the weekend.

The youngest Thunder team went winless, falling to Teal Deal 13-10 and the Casper Rebels 12-11.
