THS wrestling hosts Blazer Duals

TORRINGTON – The Torrington High School wrestling team hosted the annual Blazer Duals on Saturday in the team’s final home competition of the season.

The Blazers went 1-4 on the day.

Torrington opened the day with a 37-36 loss to the junior varsity squad of Kelly Walsh.

Tyler Nicolay (106 pounds), Landon Emigh (113) and Barrett Eichenberger (120) gave the Blazers an early 18-0 with three pins. Michael Sandusky (138), Bryce Hager (160) and Matthew Hellus (170) also picked fall victories.

However, the Kelly Walsh JV team got wins at 182, 195 and 220 to edge the Blazers by one point.

In the second round, Torrington picked up a 54-21 win over an All-Star team, comprised of wrestlers from a number of teams participating in the day’s duals.

Nicolay, Emigh, Eichenberger, Reece Grubbs (126), Sandusky, Kaden Romig (145), Hager and Hellus all got scored wins for the dual.

In round three, the Blazers, once again, came up short in a 38-30 loss to the Glenrock Herders.

Behind 11-0, Grubbs got Torrington on the scoreboard at 126 pounds with a quick 45 second victory. Romig, Sam Birdsall (195) and Nicolay also got wins for Torrington in the dual loss.

In the fourth round, Niobrara County beat Torrington 48-30.

Hunter Massie (132), Hager, Hellus and Nicolay picked up pins for Torrington in the loss.

In the final round of the day, Burns/Pine Bluffs defeated the Blazers 51-30.

Sandusky, Hellus, Nicolay, Emigh and Eichenberger were the lone winners for Torrington.

The Blazer grapplers are back in action Friday and Saturday in Lander, while the junior varsity squad will be in Lingle for the Dogger Invite on Saturday.
