CHEYENNE – The Torrington High School wrestling team opened the 2020-21 season with three losses at the Charlie Lake Duals in Cheyenne.

The Blazers fell to Ogallala, Neb., Cheyenne East and Cheyenne Central.

In the opening round on Friday, Torrington opened the day with a trio of falls against Ogallala.

Gabe Mitchell (195 pounds), Rhiley Grubbs (220) and Sam Sorenson (285) picked up pins to open the season, and those three proved to be the lone three victories of the dual.

Ogallala rattled off seven straight wins to secure the 42-18 win.

In the second round, Torrington was defeated by the Cheyenne East Thunderbirds, 69-9.

The lone wins went Sorenson by a 4-2 tie breaker, and Bryce Hager (152) by fall.

The two losses dropped the Blazers to the fifth-place match on Saturday against Cheyenne Central Indians.

After forfeit losses at 106 and 113 pounds, Reece Grubbs got the Blazers on the scoreboard with a disqualification win.

Central rattled off two more wins at 126 and 132 before Michael Sandusky scored a fall at 138 pounds for his first win of the season.

Hager, Rhiley Grubbs and Sorenson also picked up wins in the 51-30 loss to the Indians.

The Blazers return to Cheyenne for the Cheyenne Duals and will face all three Cheyenne high schools on Friday, Dec. 18.
