THS Trailblazer boys sixth, girls ninth in Mitchell

MITCHELL, Neb. – Logan Harris set a new meet record in the shot put, leading the Torrington Trailblazers boys track team to a sixth-place finish, while the girls took ninth.
Harris recorded a throw of 59 feet, 2 inches in the shot put, which was almost five feet farther than the meet record of 54 feet, 6 inches. The second-place finisher in the shot put had a throw of 49 feet, 10 inches. Harris threw the discus 150 feet, 10 inches, coming up one inch short of first place.
“Obviously Logan Harris set a meet record in the shot put,” coach Mark Sims. “He is going a great job and is right on track. He is working hard and is doing what he is supposed to be doing.”
Jacob Wambolt and Nathaniel Woodruff finished back-to-back in the shot put, taking seventh and eighth. Wambolt recorded a throw of 41 feet, 11 inches, while Woodruff set a personal record with a throw of 41 feet, 2.5 inches. In discus, Woodruff took 12th (112 feet, 1 inch) and Wambolt finished 18th (98 feet, 9 inches).
On the track, Aaron Borger had the best finish among the Blazers, taking second in the 800-meter run, clocking a personal-best 2:07.07. He was the only Torrington boy to compete in a distance event in Mitchell.
“Aaron Borger took second and so that was good to see,” Sims said.
Mondell Tolman had a successful day in the short distances, taking fifth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.83 seconds and seventh in the 400-meter dash, clocking a time of 54.87 seconds. Also in the 200, Tristan DeMott finished 14th (24.40) and Dylan Waller took 23rd (26.17). Kevin Parish was the only Blazer besides Tolman to compete in the 400 and he took 17th (58.47).
Frank Rand had the best finish in the 100-meter dash, finishing 14th with a time of 11.83 seconds. Brett Posten (23rd, 12.23) and Kevin Parish (29th, 12.60) both competed in the 100-meter dash.
Brice Krick was the only Blazer to run in the hurdles, taking seventh in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 43.78 seconds. In the 110-meter hurdles, Krick ran a 18.30 to take 11th.

Torrington had only one boys relay, with DeMott, Borger, Tolman and Krick taking sixth in the 1600-meter relay with a time of 3:42.60.
DeMott had a solid performance in pole vault, clearing 12 feet to take third place. Gavin Garner finished seventh after clearing 11 feet, 6 inches and Trey Rodriguez finished 11th with a vault of 10 feet.
In other field events, Posten, Waller and Jacob Wilhoit competed in the long jump. Posten had the best finishing, taking 17th after clearing 17 feet, 3.5 inches. Waller recorded a jump of 16 feet, 5.5 inches to finish 20th and Wilhoit cleared 14 feet, 3 inches for a personal best and 34th place.
As a team, the Torrington boys amassed 34 points. Gering, Neb. took the team title for the boys with 109 points.
“The competition is great either way we go as long as we get to compete,” Sims said of the competition in Nebraska. “The competition is just as good in Scottsbluff and Mitchell as it is in Wyoming.”
Logan Murphy had the best finish among the Lady Blazers, taking second in the long jump with an effort of 16 feet, 2.5 inches. Dantia Palmer took sixth in the same event, recording a jump of 14 feet, 1.75 inches. Palmer also finished eighth in the triple jump with a distance of 29 feet, 4 inches.
In other field events, Nakalyn Garner had the best finish in the pole vault, finishing seventh after clearing 8 feet. Aubrey DeMott took 11th (7 feet, 6 inches) and Katie Wiford finished 17th (6 feet, 6 inches).
Pamela Pierce was the best thrower for the Lady Blazers, taking sixth in the discus with a throw of 95 feet, 2 inches. Tayte Rodriguez took 22nd in the same event with a 68 foot, 6-inch effort. Chloe Krick was the final lady to compete in the discus, finishing 31st (60 feet, 5 inches).
Rodriguez finished 21st in the shot put with a throw of 23 feet, 10 inches. Krick and Pierce were not far behind in the shot, taking 23rd (23 feet, 2 inches) and 27th (22 feet, 9 inches).
On the track, Adia Sherbeyn had the best individual finish, recording a time of 2:36.76 in the 800-meter run to take sixth. Brielle Bivens was the only other Lady Blazer to compete in a distance event, taking 12th in the 3200-meter run with a time of 15:50.38.
In the shorter events, Shelbey Prusia had the best day. She took ninth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 28.25 seconds and 10th in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.68 seconds. Latosha Wiford clocked a time of 14.02 seconds in the 100 to take 14th. In the 200, completed the event in 29.50 seconds to place 14th.
Katie Wiford represented Torrington in the 400-meter dash, finishing 14th with a time fo 1:06.91.
In the 300-meter dash, Falecia Blow and Cheyenne Mickle finished back-to-back, taking 16th and 17th.
The team of Katie and Latosha Wiford, along with Prusia and Palmer, took fifth in the 400-meter relay with a time of 54.32 seconds. Katie Wiford, Sherbeyn, Palmer and Chrissy Lira completed the 1600-meter relay in a time of 4:32.21 to take seventh.
The Lady Blazers racked up 13 team points, tying them for ninth with Bayard, Neb. Gering hauled in another team title, racking up 123 points on the ladies’ side.
“(The team performance) was ok,” Sims said. “We didn’t do bad, we just didn’t have everybody there but the ones who were there competed and did good.”
The Torrington boys and girls track teams return to competitive action in Scottsbluff, Neb. on Thursday in an invitational hosted by Alliance, Neb.
