TORRINGTON – Torrington High School’s choir performed for parents and community members at the Goshen County Library’s “Music Monday” on April 26.
The event began at 6:30 p.m. and featured 11 performances. After a group ensemble, soloists Emanuel Bustamante, Inez Flores, Adria Derby, Ruby Ringrose, Avey Jespersen and Bethany Wunibald performed. Inez Flores and Maia Harris sang a duet and Trisha Cates performed a piano piece. The women’s ensemble finished the night, with two pieces.
Vocal Music Teacher Katelyn Fody said most of the pieces were performed for their most recent festival and received superior ratings.
“It’s important for the kids because it’s scary to perform in front of people,” said Fody. “It teaches them to be confident and to overcome those fears.”
An event like this, Fody said, allows the community “to see that the arts really are alive here in Goshen County.”
Fody said she appreciated seeing the students learn to give back to their community through music.
Those who missed the event can still watch it on the library’s Facebook page.
Fody said on May 4, there will be an honors recital, featuring performances that have received superior ratings.
