TORRINGTON – The Torrington High School boys’ basketball team opened 3A Southeast Quadrant play over the weekend with mixed results.

On Friday, the Blazers hosted  Wheatland, raced out to an 8-0 lead, but the Bulldogs scored a 48-43  come-from-behind victory.

The Blazers got 3-pointers from seniors Cameron Murphy and Jackson Jones, along with an additional two points from sophomore Kieser Wolfe.

It took Wheatland nearly five and a half minutes to get on the scoreboard when senior Mytch Pollock scored an old-fashioned 3-point play.

Those were his only points of the night, as over the next 45 seconds, Pollock was issued a pair of technical fouls and was ejected from the game.

Jones went 4-for-4 at the free throw line, giving Torrington a 12-3 lead.

Over the final two minutes of the first quarter and the first four minutes of the second quarter, Wheatland chipped away at the Blazer lead.

Midway through the second, Wheatland sophomore Kade Preuit put the Bulldogs in front for the first time in the game.

Wolfe gave Torrington a brief lead in the final minute of the half, but Wheatland took a 21-20 lead into half.

Coming out of the break, the Bulldogs never trailed for the remainder of the game.

A 3-pointer from Preuit pushed the WHS lead to 34-25 with a minute left to play in the third quarter, but Torrington had one more run in them before the final horn.

Jones and a 3-pointer from sophomore Deagan Keith cut the Bulldog lead to three in the first minute of the fourth quarter, but Torrington couldn’t get any closer than one over the final six minutes of the game.

Preuit led the Bulldogs with 13 points, while junior Trent Jones added nine. Seniors Luke Anderson and Kobey Preuit tossed in eight apiece.

The next night, the Blazers defeated Burns 51-46.

Torrington overcome a 37-27 deficit in the third quarter to score the five-point victory.

The Blazers jumped out to a 13-4 lead in the first quarter, but Burns battled back to take a 23-21 lead at the half before pushing it to double-digits heading into the final eight minutes.

Torrington (5-6 overall and 1-1 3A Southeast Quad) will host the Rawlins Outlaws (10-3 and 1-1) on Friday. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
