THS Lady Blazers snaps four-game skid; Lady Blazers head to Glenrock on Thursday

BURNS – The Torrington High School volleyball team snapped a four-game skid after picking up a pair of road victories over the weekend.

On Thursday, the Lady Blazers swept the Newcastle Dogies. Torrington picked up a 25-17, 25-10, 25-17 win.

Junior Olive Osmera led the team with 13 kills, while senior Alyssa Albaugh added nine. As a team, the Lady Blazer served up 13 aces in the win, including a team-high five from sophomore Brooklyn Asmus. Albaugh had two stuff blocks, while Asmus and junior Teryn Stokes shared a block. Sophomore Natalie Long had 11 digs, while Osmera had 10. Long also dished 17 assists, while senior Emma Colombini had 14.

On Saturday, the Lady Blazers traveled to Burns and knocked off the defending Class 2A state champs 3-1.

Torrington picked up 25-17 and 25-22 wins in the first two sets, but Burns prevented the sweep with a 25-16 set three win. In the fourth, the Blazers finished off the Lady Broncs with a 25-18 win.

Osmera led the team with 11 kills, while Asmus added 10. Albaugh served up four aces, while Oserma, Colombini and Asmus had two each. Junior Jaycee Hurley led the team with 21 digs, while Long had 19 assists.

The Lady Blazers are now 7-9-1 on the season and are 2-2 in the 3A Southeast Quadrant. They travel to Glenrock for a 5 p.m. contest on Thursday. First serve is scheduled for 5 p.m.
