THS indoor track teams fourth at Laramie

LARAMIE – The Torrington High School indoor track and field teams had their final tune-ups for the upcoming state meet. Both teams finished fourth at Laramie High School’s Last Chance Qualifier.

In the boys’ division, the 1,600-meter relay team won the only event of the day for the Blazers. They completed the race in 3 minutes, 47.97 seconds.

Torrington also had a pair of runner-up finishes. Kyland Fuller finished second in the 800-meter run in 2:07.17, just ahead of teammate Aydan Loya who finished third in 2:07.41.

Ryan Clapper also finished second in 23.09 in the 200-meter dash, beating out teammate Brendan Flock who was sixth in 24.22.

In the 1,600-meter run, Weston Cronk finished third in 4:54.93, while Flock placed third in the 55-meter dash in 6.71 seconds.

In field events, Bryant DeMott cleared six feet in high jump to finish fourth, while Tyler Bennick was also fourth in shot put with a toss of 43 feet, 4.5 inches.

The Blazers finished fourth with 59 points. Laramie High School won the team title with 112 points, while Cheyenne Central was second with 110.5. Cheyenne East was third with 86.

The Lady Blazers were led by a pair of wins from senior Jordan Stoddard.

Stoddard won high jump, clearing 5-6. She also won long jump with a leap of 18-11, beating out teammate Alyssa Wondercheck who finished third at 16-1.5.

The Lady Blazers also had a number of third-place finishes including Emma Johnson in shot put with a throw of 32-9.5, Ada Merrigan in the 1,600-meter run in 5:57.06, Tyne Stokes in the 400-meter dash in 1:02.82, and Tiffany Krueger in the 800-meter run in 2:41.44.

Angie Logsdon was fifth in pole vault, clearing 8-6. The height was a personal record for Logsdon and also set a new school record.

Wondercheck also finished sixth in the 200-meter dash in 28.39, while Emma Walker was seventh in the 55-meter hurdles in 10.25 seconds.

The Lady Blazers finished fourth with 59 points. Laramie won the team title with 125 points, while Cheyenne East was second with 92. Cheyenne Central was third with 89.

The State Indoor Track and Field Championships will be held Friday and Saturday, March 4-5 in Gillette.
