THS’ Harris breaks school shot put record

SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb. – Logan Harris’ throw of 61 feet, 6 inches in the shot put at the Alliance, Neb. Invitational in Scottsbluff on Thursday marked his personal-best, breaking the school record by five inches.
Harris’ 20 points between the shot put and discus helped propel the Torrington Trailblazer boys to a third-place finish in Division I with 81.5 points. The Lady Blazers finished fifth with 75 points.
On top of his shot put throw that was more than 13 feet further than the second-place finisher, Harris took first in the discus, recording a throw of 147 feet, 4 inches.
Nathaniel Woodruff was the second-best thrower for the Blazers, taking seventh in the shot put (40 feet, 2.5 inches) and 10th in the discus (110 feet, 3 inches). Jacob Wambolt was the only other Blazer to throw, taking 11th in the discus with a throw of 107 feet, 5 inches.
Other than Harris, Aaron Borger was the only other Torrington boy to finish atop the podium, taking first in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:10.56. Cameron Juma turned in a time of 2:25.45 in the half-mile to finish ninth. Rounding out the distance performances, Josh Posten turned in a time of 5:12.11 in the 1600-meter run to take fifth and Pake Haun finished fourth in the 3200-meter run (11:48.19).
Frank Rand and Mondell Tolman tied for third in the 200-meter dash,  recording times of 24 seconds flat. Brett Posten finished sixth in the 200 with a time of 24.80 seconds. In the 100-meter dash, Rand finished fourth (11.64 seconds), Tolman took sixth (11.78 seconds) and Posten finished 11th (12.11 seconds).
Tristan DeMott took third in the 400-meter dash, turning in a time of 56.31 seconds.

Brice Krick recorded two top-eight finishes in Scottsbluff. In the 110-meter hurdles, the Blazer took seventh with a time of 17.72 seconds. He clocked a time of 45.37 seconds in the 300-meter hurdles to finish sixth.
DeMott had the best finish in the field events, behind Harris. DeMott took third in the pole vault, clearing 12 feet. In the same event, Jared Spencer and Trey Rodriguez both cleared 10 feet, 6 inches to take fifth and sixth.
In the high jump, Casey Britton cleared 5 feet, 8 inches to take fifth. Brett Posten was the final Blazer to compete in any field event, finished ninth in the long jump with a 17 feet, 5.25 inch effort.
Juma, Haun, Borger and Josh Posten took third in the 3200-meter relay with a time of 9:01.95. In the 1600-meter relay, Borger, DeMott, Krick and Tolman turned in a time of 3:48.12 to finish third.
The Blazers’ 81.5 points cemented them in third place. Scottsbluff, Neb. took first with 148 points and Douglas was second with 124.5 points.
Shelby Prusia proved herself for the Lady Blazers. She took first in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.24 seconds. In the 200-meter dash, Prusia clocked a time of 27.71 seconds to finished second, 0.01 seconds out of first.
Katie Wiford also competed in the two shortest sprints, taking seventh in the 100 (14.16 seconds) and eighth in the 200 (30.11 seconds). Onalisa Albaugh recorded a time of 28.40 seconds in the 200-meter dash to take fourth. She also took fourth in the 400-meter dash, clocking a time of 1:08.13.
Samantha Hill had the best finish in the field events for the Lady Blazers, taking first in the triple jump with a 33 feet, 2 inch effort. Renee Cline finished fourth in the triple jump after clearing 30 feet, 7 inches. The two finished fifth and seventh in the long jump, with Hill jumping 14 feet, 5.25 inches and Cline jumping 13 feet, 11 inches.
In the pole vault, Albaugh vaulted 7 feet, 6 inches to take third. Aubrey DeMott cleared 7 feet to take fifth and Sarandon Keeran finished sixth with a 6 feet, 6 inch effort.
Pamela Pierce had the best finish among the throwers for the Torrington girls, taking third in the discus with a throw of 87 feet, 5 inches. She also finished 10th in the shot put with a throw of 24 feet, 1 inch. Chloe Krick took 10th in the discus (68 feet, 9 inches) and 12th in the shot put (22 feet, 11 inches).
Cline, Prusia, Wiford and Hill took first in the 400-meter relay, finishing with a time of 54.30 seconds. In the 1600-meter relay, Albaugh, Hill, Cline and Wiford took second with a time of 4:36.70.
The Lady Blazers amassed 75 points, which was one behind Chadron, Neb., who took fourth with 76 points. Scottsbluff, Neb. took the team title for the girls with 132 points.
The Torrington girls and boys teams return to competitive action on Friday for the Douglas Invitational. Action is set to begin at 12:30 p.m.
