THS golf hosts spring tournament

TORRINGTON – The Torrington High School golf team hosted its annual spring tournament on Friday.

Gage Gibson led the team with a round of 82, finishing in a tie for 11th place. Alex Waring and Mason Wilkes both shot 99 to finished tied for 31st. Lucas Gara fired a 108. Boden Barnes shot a 112, while Taylor Swartwood and Preston Telford had a 116.

As a team, the Blazers finished sixth with a 392. Kelly Walsh won the team title with 318, while Cheyenne Central was second with 324.

In the girls’ division, the Lady Blazers were led by Kaleigh Waymire with a 111 and a 13th-place finish. Kaylee Pittman had a 124, while Sarah Birdsall shot a 128. Kassidy Hurley had a 133, while Madyson Banister finished with a 136. Ty Fogle had a 142, while Zoe Hoff had a 145 and Aubrey Steinbock 164.

As a team, the Lady Blazers finished with 363. Kelly Walsh won the team title with 267, while Cheyenne Central was second with 279.

“Kayleigh Waymire has really come along this spring, dropping 30 some strokes from last fall,” THS coach Jeff Halley said. “Most of the rest of our kids are getting their first experiences and improving rapidly from there also. It is tough competing against the 4A schools, but right now, it is just about our kids improving for next fall.”

The Torrington golf teams are back in action at Rawlins on Friday, May 6.
