TORRINGTON – The Torrington Lady Trailblazers soccer team fell in a 2-0 hole Tuesday against Newcastle, but battled to tie the game up at two apiece, but couldn’t continue the late-game magic, falling 3-2.
Torrington and Newcastle played a scoreless 40 minutes to open the game, heading to intermission with the score at nil-nil. Newcastle capitalized on a loose ball in the box and scored in the 44th minute. The Lady Dogies kicked in another goal in the 46th minute to take a 2-0 lead.
Three minutes later, Brooke Peterson scored after fighting for possession just inside the 18-yard box, trimming the lead to 2-1. In the 61st minute, Jordan Hunt took the free kick from the side of the box and found Jade Cooper just in front of the net for a goal, scoring the equalizer.
Newcastle was not done scoring, finding the back of the net for a goal in the 67th minute. Despite several attempts up the field, including a shot with less than 30 seconds left on the clock that just missed the frame, the Lady Blazers were unable to tie the score again, falling 3-2.
The loss dropped Torrington to 0-12-2 on the year, with a 0-2-1 record in the conference. The Lady Blazers close out the regular season on the road Saturday against Rawlins with a 12 p.m. start.
