CASPER – The Torrington High School girls’ track and field team wrapped up the season with a sixth-place finish at the Class 3A State Track and Field Championships at Kelly Walsh High School in Casper over the weekend.

The Lady Blazers’ lone win of the weekend came in the sprint medley relay. The team of Marissa Moorehouse, Hailey Boslau, Tyne Stokes and Sera Glass won the event in 4 minutes, 17.62 seconds, breaking the Class 3A state record by almost a second. The team also finished six seconds ahead of second-place Rawlins.

It was the first of three top five finishes by the Lady Blazer relay teams.

The 4x400 team of Glass, Moorehouse, Stokes and Boslau nearly pulled off their second title of the weekend with a second-place finish in 4:08.93, just .42 seconds off the winning time from Powell. The 4x100 team of Boslau, Kyndra Wiford, Brummell and Alyssa Wondercheck finished fourth in 52.99 seconds.

Brummell led the Lady Blazers with a trio of individual placings.

Brummell finished runner-up in the triple jump with a leap of 35-7 1/2 and placed tied for third in high jump at 5 feet.

Brummell also finished sixth in long jump at 15-9 1/4. Moorehouse was fifth in long jump at 15-9 1/2, while Wondercheck missed placing by two spots with a jump of 15-3 3/4.

In pole vault, junior Mattie Jones finished third, clearing 9-6.

In other field events, juniors Sierra Allen and Reece Halley both made finals of discuss. Allen finished eighth with a toss of 101-8, while Halley finished ninth at 101-9 despite wearing a boot protecting her injured ankle.

In the middle-distance events, Glass finished fifth in the 800 in 2:27.27, while Stokes finished sixth in the 400-meter finals in 1:01.21.

In the 200-meter dash, Boslau finished eighth in 28.41 seconds.

As a team, the Lady Blazers finished sixth with 58.5 points. Powell won the team title with 105 points, while Buffalo was second with 71.

In the boys’ division, the Blazers medaled in two relays and high jump.

It proved to be the only points the team scored over the course of the weekend.

The 4x100 team of Jayden Schlagel, Brendan Flock, Benjamin Fuller and Cody Pierce finished eighth in 46.67 seconds, while the 4x800 team of Weston Cronk, Aydan Loya, Timothy Randolph and Schlagel also finished eighth in 9:02.04.

In field events, junior Bryant DeMott finished tied for eighth in high jump, clearing 5-8.

In the 300-meter hurdles, Cody Pierce qualified for the 300-meter hurdle finals in a time of 41.78 seconds, but a fall start in the finals cost the THS senior a shot a medal.

The Blazers finished 16th with 2.33 points. Lander Valley won the team title with 113 points, while Mountain View with 108 points.
