TORRINGTON – Although the Torrington Lady Trailblazers had several spurts of solid soccer, the team fell 11-1 at home against Scottsbluff, Neb. on Tuesday.

Torrington had a goal early in the game, but by the 20th minute, the squad was down 3-1. Jade Cooper had the goal for the Lady Blazers, off the feed from Miranda Aguayo. The Lady Bearcats added another goal in the 29th minute to go up 4-1. Scottsbluff closed out the first half hot, scoring three goals before intermission to take a 7-1 lead at intermission.

The Lady Bearcats continued their solid play into the second half, scoring in the 41st minute and again in the 44th minute to lead 9-1. Scottsbluff added another two goals in the second half and kept Torrington out of the back of the net.

In the loss, Torrington had several girls step on to the pitch and contribute in big ways.

“Our coaches and I consistently say we have 16 starter-caliber players, which is great,” coach Travis Rapp said. “What we are trying to fish out as the season goes on is the best combinations of those 16 girls. We have the depth and we have the ability to stay fresh for the full 80 minutes. Now, as a team, we have to put that all together and be disciplined individually and as 11 players on the pitch together.”

In the goal, Jenessa Derby notched seven saves, while Shelby Schainost had five saves of her own.

“This is a group of girls I’d go into any contest with,” Rapp said. “We are healthy, we are learning and we are getting better.

“Even if the end score line didn’t change from our first game against them, if you could erase 12 minutes of that game it’s a 4-1 contest,” he added. “Obviously you can’t do that, but we can look at those 12 minutes and try to erase them before they happen against Douglas or Lander.”

The loss drops Torrington to 0-8-1 on the year. The Lady Blazers have a tough task this weekend. On Friday, the team hosts second-ranked Douglas at 4 p.m., before hitting the road Saturday to take on conference foe Lander at 2 p.m.

“A win or two this weekend would be huge for us as we move toward state qualification,” Rapp said. “We can still earn our automatic bid to state, which is a great feeling for a group of players who have not reached their full potential yet.”
