TORRINGTON – The Torrington Lady Trailblazers faced a hot Douglas girls team, with a 13-0 record on the year, and Torrington failed to put a blemish on that record Friday in a 63-37 loss.

“I was proud of our girls the way they battled,” coach Jeff Halley said. “We played them nearly as close as most other teams this season.”

Douglas got off to a hot start, even after a buzzer-beater at the end of the first quarter was ruled off, the Lady Bearcats held a 19-6 lead. In the second quarter, Douglas notched another 19 points, while Torrington upped its scoring output to nine to head into the break down 38-15.

The Lady Blazers added another nine in the third and limited Douglas to 10 points, putting the score at 48-24 with a quarter to go. The Lady Bearcats cruised to the 63-37 win by outscoring Torrington 15-13.

Adia Sherbeyn paced Torrington in the scoring department with 10 points, including six from behind the arc, which she paired with five rebounds and two steals. Chrissy Lira came away with eight points, five rebounds and a steal, with three of her boards coming on the offensive end of the floor. Logan Murphy joined the top scorers, chipping in seven points, three boards, an assist and two steals.

Brielle Bivens hit a bucket and two free throws to tally four points in the game, along with two offensive rebounds. Brooklyn Tucker, Taylor Walsh and Dani Masterson rounded out the scoring with two points apiece. The trio combined for five boards, an assist and six steals, with Tucker notching a team-high three steals.

The Lady Blazers shot 27 percent from the floor, going 2-for-13 from three-point land and 12-for-39 from inside the arc. At the charity stripe, Torrington hit 58 percent of their shots. As a team, the Lady Blazers committed 30 turnovers.

“We will work on some adjustments when we head up there in two weeks,” Halley said. “We do have to take much better care of the ball. We can’t have wasted opportunities by turning the ball over when you play someone that is difficult to stop.”

The loss drops Torrington to 5-8 on the year, with a 2-1 record against quadrant opponents, putting them in the second slot in the quadrant. The Lady Blazers return to their home floor Friday against Worland, starting at 5:30 p.m., followed by a home game Saturday against Thermopolis with a 2 p.m. tipoff.
