Lady Blazers defeat Newcastle, fall to Riverton

TORRINGTON – The No. 4-ranked Torrington High School boys’ soccer team outscored Newcastle and Riverton a combined 15-2 over the weekend.

On Thursday afternoon, the Blazers drubbed the Newcastle Dogies, 9-0.

It took THS only 11 minutes for Chase Miller to find the back of the net to give the Blazers a 1-0 lead. Five minutes later Cole Parriott made it 2-0 off a corner kick from Josh Stitt. Miller added his second goal in the 28th minute to push the Blazers’ lead to 3-0 heading into halftime.

In the second half, the Blazers exploded for six more goals over the final 40 minutes. Kieser Wolfe, Isaac Bartlett and Juan Carlos Stevens had one each, while Stitt had three, completing the hat trick in the 51st minute.

On Saturday, Torrington traveled to Riverton, defeating the No. 5-ranked Wolverines, 6-2.

Stitt had another hat trick, while Wolfe had two goals in the win.

Lady Blazers go 1-1

The Lady Blazers opened the weekend with a 2-1 win over Newcastle for their second conference victory of the year.

Ellie Tapia netted Torrington’s first goal of the day in the 16th minute and Grace Steinbock added the second goal in the 39th minute.

It proved to be the lone goals of the game and weekend for Torrington.

Newcastle’s lone goal came in the 74th minute.

On Friday, the Lady Blazers were handed a 6-0 loss to Riverton by the No. 3-ranked Lady Wolverines.
