THS boys second in Wheatland

WHEATLAND – The Torrington High School golf team began its season Thursday and Friday at the Wheatland Invite.

The Blazer boys ended the weekend with a second-place finish with two individuals placing in the top 10.

Junior Gage Gibson improved his score by five strokes from day one to day two, shooting rounds of 86 and 81 for a total of 167 to place second.

Senior Ryder Hackbarth finished tied for sixth with rounds of 95 and 84 for a 179.

“It was nice to see Gage and Ryder make the top 10 and our boys took second as a team only losing to Laramie,” THS coach Jeff Halley said.

Alex Waring shot 187 with rounds of 94 and 93 to finish 15th, while Malaki Braddy shot round of 94 and 96 to finish the weekend with a 190 and in 18th place. Josh Stitt shot a 196 with rounds of 105 and 91 to place 21st.

As a team, the Blazer boys shot a 718 for the two days to finish as the best 3A school at the tournament. Class 4A Laramie won the tournament with a 696. Douglas was third with 725.

In the girls’ division, Sydney Eaton paced the Lady Blazers with a 209, shooting rounds of 102 and 107 to place sixth. Tilly Fogle placed 20th with rounds of 131 and 140 for a total of 271. Madyson Banister shot 128 and 146 to finish 21st, while Kaylee Pittman shot a 295. Madison Copenbarger rounded out the Lady Blazer roster with a 311.

“Sydney also had a good start for the girls in 6th, and our others got a good day of learning for their first fall tournaments,” Halley said.

As a team, the Lady Blazers shot a 754 to place fifth. Wheatland won the tournament with a 562. Laramie was second with 658. Cheyenne Central was third with 711.

The Torrington golf teams head to Rawlins Thursday and Friday, Aug. 19-20 for the Rawlins Invite.
