THS boys’ second at Scottsbluff

SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb. – The Torrington High School cross country teams traveled across state lines to take part in the Scottsbluff Bearcat XC Festival at the Scottsbluff Country Club on Friday.

The boys’ team finished second, while the girls’ team placed fifth.

THS senior Aydan Loya won the boys’ race in 16 minutes, 57.44 seconds. His time was the only sub-17-minute run of the race. Hans Bastron of Scottsbluff placed a distant second in 17:16.32.

Junior Myles Wilson was fifth in 17:42.45, while freshman Sully Wilson was ninth at 17:47.82. Freshman Cole Keller crossed the finish line 23rd in 19:04.82, while junior Zab Munoz was 27th in 19:12.48.

As a team, the Blazers scored 38 points to finish second. Gering, Nebraska won the team title with 26 points.

In the girls’ division, freshman Kaycee Kasmicki led the team with a 14th-place finish in 22:20.85. Junior Ada Merrigan placed 20th in 22:41.92, while sophomore Callie Taylor finished 22nd in 22:45.23. Tiffany Krueger placed 26th in 23:24.17, while senior Amberly Froerer was 29th in 23:31.14.

The Lady Blazers finished seventh with 82 points. Cheyenne East won the team title with 26 points, while Chadron, Nebraska was second with 38.

Torrington is back in action in Glenrock on Friday, Oct. 7.
