NEWCASTLE – The Torrington High School boys’ cross country team opened the season with a second-place finish at the Mallo Invite hosted by Newcastle High School at the Newcastle Country Club.
The Blazers had three runners in the top 10 individually.
Junior Aiden Loya led the way with a third-place finish in 18 minutes, 55.28 seconds. Senior Kyland Fuller placed eighth in 19:41, while sophomore Myles Wilson was ninth in 19:42.71.
Senior Michael Sandusky finished 17th in 21:02.1, while junior Collin Taylor was 18th in 21.02.59. Freshman Massie Hunter and sophomore Zabdiel Munoz rounded out the Blazer roster, placing 29th and 30th, respectively.
As a team the Blazers scored 49 points to place second. Belle Fourche, South Dakota won the team title with 26 points. Newcastle was third with 52.
In the girls’ division, senior Tyne Stokes paced the Lady Blazers with a fifth-place finish in 22:25.58. Freshman Tiffany Krueger was 10th in 23:30.12, while sophomore Ada Merrigan was 12th in 23:40.57.
No team standings were kept in the girls’ division.
The Torrington cross county teams will be back in action in Gering, Nebraska on Friday, Sept. 3.
