THS boys lose lead in 2OT loss

TORRINGTON – After leading 27-19 at the half Friday, the Torrington Trailblazers allowed Wheatland to claw back into the game, with Torrington coming out on the wrong end of a 60-59 double overtime game on Senior Night.

The Blazers built a 12-9 lead after the first quarter and outscored the Bulldogs 15-10 in the second quarter to hold a 27-19 lead at the break. Torrington expanded on its lead, upping it to 11, but Wheatland started to string points together to cut the lead to 33-28. To close out regulation, Wheatland converted an old-fashioned three-point play to tie the score at 40 at the final horn.

Starting overtime, the Blazers rushed out to a 47-44 lead, but a three late in the first overtime by Wheatland tied the game at 47, sending the game to a second overtime. Wheatland reversed the fortunes at the beginning of the second overtime by taking a lead of their own. Jordan Malm hit a bucket from behind the arc late in the period, but Torrington was never able to regain the lead, falling 60-59.

Bryan Lemmon finished the night with 20 points to pace Torrington, with three from behind the arc and five from the charity stripe. He was second on the team with six rebounds, while finishing with a steal. Malm racked up 19 points, including 11 from the free-throw line, where he shot 11-of-12. Malm packed his stat line with three rebounds, an assist and a steal.

Devin Flores knocked down two three-pointers to finish the night with six points. Josh Posten had four points and a rebound. Bo Moorehouse and Nathan Stitt notched three points apiece. Stitt had a rebound and a team-high four assists while Moorehouse chipped in a rebound, an assist and a steal.

Sam Firminhac and Jared Lemmon combined for four points, with Lemmon recording two assists, two steals and a team-high eight boards.

Rawlins 58, Torrington 36

The Blazers hit the road Saturday to take on No. 4 Rawlins, falling by a 22-point margin.

Malm stepped to the top of the scoring sheet with 13 points, along with five rebounds and two assists.

Bryan Lemmon recorded nine points, while Jared Lemmon chipped in another eight points. Jared had six rebounds and an assist, while Bryan added three boards and an assist of his own.

Moorehouse, Firminhac and Ryan Johnson each had two points in the loss. Johnson and Firminhac combined for four rebounds, while Moorehouse had a block. Posten, Stitt and Flores combined three rebounds, four assists and two steals.

Torrington dropped to 11-8 on the year, falling to 3-3 against quadrant opponents. The Blazers’ final action of the regular season comes on the road Friday against second-ranked Buffalo, with a 7 p.m. start.
