THS boys handle two home games

TORRINGTON – The Torrington Trailblazers picked up a pair of home wins against 3A East opponents, besting Worland 62-55 and handling Thermopolis 61-46.

Torrington 62, Worland 55

Both teams came out hot in the first quarter, with back-to-back three’s tying the game at eight. At the end of the first, the score was knotted at 10. Nearing intermission, Torrington and Worland both had 20 points, but a late three by the Warriors gave the visitors a 23-20 lead after 16 minutes of action.

Coming back to the floor, Torrington’s offense came alive and they racked up 19 points in the frame, while Worland poured in 15 points, giving the Blazers a 39-38 lead with a quarter to go.

Torrington slowly expanded its lead to four points (50-46) with just under two minutes to go. With 32.2 ticks left, the Warriors knocked down a three-pointer to cut the Torrington lead to 57-52. Worland kept things tight, but Bryan and Jared Lemmon combined to go 3-of-4 from the charity stripe in the waning moments of the game to seal the seven-point win for the Blazers.

Bryan Lemmon topped the scoring sheet with 20 points, including six from behind the arc and six from the charity stripe. He also led Torrington with eight boards and four steals, while notching three assists.

Jordan Malm was not far behind, pouring in 19 points, with nine from behind the arc, and accounting for six boards and an assist. Devin Flores was the final Blazer in double-figures, packing his stat line with 11 points, with nine from deep, a board and an assist.

Rounding out the scoring, Jared Lemmon, Nathan Stitt and Josh Posten combined for 12 points. Lemmon had six boards, two assists and a steal on the night, while Posten and Stitt combined for two rebounds, three assists and a steal. Bo Moorehouse did not score, but he played a part in several points, racking up four assists, two rebounds and a steal.

Torrington 61, Thermopolis 46

Torrington started the game Saturday on a hot streak and exploded for 40 points in the first half, while limiting the Bobcats to 22. Thermopolis had the edge in the third, outscoring Torrington 16-13 in the frame, putting the score at 53-38 with a quarter to go. The Blazers held on in a low-scoring fourth quarter, with both teams accounting for eight points.

Malm edged Bryan Lemmon in the scoring department with 15 points to Lemmon’s 14. Malm also accounted for three rebounds, three assists and two steals, while Lemmon chipped in eight boards, an assist, two steals and a block.

Stitt poured in 11 points for Torrington, along with five rebounds and three assists, while Flores kicked in another eight points, two boards and a block.

Jared Lemmon and Sam Firminhac recorded four points apiece, while combining for seven boards, an assist, two steals and two blocks. Moorehouse and Posten combined for five points, eight boards, four assists and three steals, while Ryan Johnson added another four rebounds and two assists.

The Blazers improved to 10-5 on the year, with a 2-1 record against quadrant opponents. Their next game comes on the road Thursday against Douglas, with a 7 p.m. tipoff. On Friday, Torrington hosts top-seeded Newcastle with an eye toward revenge in a rematch that starts at 7 p.m.
