THS boys fourth, girls fifth at home golf tournament

TORRINGTON – Caleb Kelly and Mason Wilkes paced the Torrington High School golf team to a fourth-place finish Thursday and Friday at the Cottonwood at Torrington Golf Course.

Kelly had rounds of 84 and 89 to finish the weekend with a 173. His two rounds were good to for 17th. Meanwhile Mason Wilkes shot rounds of 88 and 86 to finish one shot behind Kelly with a 174. Wilkes placed 19th individually.

Connor Correll shot a 179 with rounds of 91 and 88, while Mason Unverzagt had a pair of 98s to finish with a total of 196. Spencer Booth had rounds of 99 and 98 with a total of 198.

The Blazers shot a 722 as a team to finish fourth. Campbell County won the team title with 623, while Wheatland was second with 626. Thunder Basin was third with 645.

Torrington’s second five golfers was led by Wyatt Lynde, who had rounds of 100 and 106 for a 206, while Preston Telford had a 214 after rounds of 111 and 103. Adriano Predo fired a two-day total of 219 with rounds of 115 and 104, while Griffin Wolfe had 122 and 124 for a 246, while Mateo Correa shot 121 and 135 for a 256.

In the girls’ division, Madyson Banister had rounds of 93 and 101 to lead the Lady Blazers with a 194 to place seventh. Kaleigh Waymire shot a two-day total of 198 after shooting a pair of 99s to finish 12th. Madison Gibson shot two rounds of 121 to finish the weekend with a 242, while Sarah Birdsall shot 126 and 123 to finish with a 249. Lorelei Telford shot rounds of 142 and 133 for a two-day total of 275.

As a team, Torrington finished fifth with 634. Wheatland won the team title with 542, while Douglas was second with 574.

Torrington travels to Buffalo on Thursday and Friday, Aug. 31 and Sept. 1.
