EVANSTON – The Torrington High School golf team wrapped up the 2020 season with a 10th-place finish at the Wyoming Class 3A State Golf Championships in Evanston over the weekend.
In the team’s only two-day tournament of the season, the Blazers finished with a team total of 778 (390-388). Worland won the team title with 620 (304 and 316), while Cody was second with 659 (327-332). Riverton was third with a 665 (330-335).
“We knew it would be tough, but most of our kids actually did ok,” THS coach Jeff Halley said.
Blazer golfers set three personal best scores over the weekend.
“Our scores as a whole were about what we had done all year,” Halley said.
Sophomore Gage Gibson paced the boys’ team with a two-day total of 180 (88-92) to tie for 23rd, while Malachi Braddy finished 44th with a 197 (103-94). Ryder Hackbarth and Josh Stitt finished tied for 47th with a 201. Hackbarth had rounds of 97 and 104, while Stitt shot a 103 and 98. Alex Waring shot a 206 (102-104) to finish tied for 54th.
In the girls’ division, Sydney Eaton finished tied for 20th with a 205 (99-106), and Lauren Orr finished 45th with a 254 (133-121).
With only two golfers, the Lady Blazers didn’t record a team score, but Lovell won the team title with a 555 (276-279). Wheatland was second with a 558 (281-277), and Green River was third with a 566 (270-296).
There were no seniors on 2020 Blazer squad, and Halley hopes this weekend serves as a good experience for the team heading into next fall.
“It was good experience for our young kids to see what they have to do to compete at a higher level,” he said.
